Today I noticed that there’s no real way to say “never mind” in Spanish. This plagues me as a person who tends to change their mind every other waking minute of the day. My Spanish teacher once told me that words are created out of necessity. So, what does that say about Spanish speakers? Do they take the time to carefully plot out every word they say? Could be why they’re such slow texters. What does that say about me and my constant need to edit and/or retract so many of my half-assed messages? Maybe it means they’re unafraid. It could also mean that I’m over-afraid, stuck overanalyzing ten different ways my message might have been misconstrued.
Thank God for the erase button on WhatsApp. ¿Eliminar este mensaje? That must be the closest thing to “never mind” here. Maybe, they just don’t mind? But, I mind. I always-mind.
¿Eliminar este mensaje? Yes, delete. Delete for me, them, and anyone else who might have laid eyes on it. Give me a chance to say it over and maybe, mean it this time.
